Lights are a-twinkling, bellies are full of festive indulgences, the house is snuggly warm and full of cheer… must be time for a Christmas film! Here at Tweak we were having a chat/debate about our favourite Christmas films of all time. How is it that some Christmas films can be watched year-after-year and they still give you that nostalgic feeling?
Here are Team Tweak’s favourite Christmas films of all time:
Louise – Founder
Favourite Christmas film: The Holiday
Starring: Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law
Why do you like it? It’s just so feel-good! I love the way the two characters – Iris and Amanda – go from being completely down in the dumps to having the time of their lives! They both need a little ‘time out’ to take control of their lives and it does them the world of good. I must admit that Jude Law is also rather ‘easy on the eye’ so to speak. Oh and also, half of the film is set near here in the beautiful town of Shere in Surrey.

Favourite Christmas film: It’s a Wonderful Life
Starring James Stewart and Henry Travers
Why do you like it? It’s an absolute classic and I watch it every Christmas eve with my Mum and every Christmas eve we end up in bits, sobbing at the ending. It incorporates the idea that Christmas isn’t perfect for everyone and sometimes life is tough – yet the ending is so hopeful and leaves you with that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Favourite Christmas film: Santa Claus: The Movie
Starring Dudley Moore and David Huddleston.
Why do you like it? This film just takes me back to childhood. It brings back that feeling of pure excitement and anticipation that you only get when you’re a kid and Father Christmas may or may not be delivering a mountain of presents that evening! The Santa in the film is so how every Santa should look.
Tracey – Account Director
Favourite Christmas film: Die Hard
Starring Bruce Willis
Why do you like it? Well before you think it, of course, this isn’t your typical Christmas film, however, it’s set at Christmastime and usually on during the festive period. To me, Die Hard is just the best action film ever made, full of twists and turns – I’m not a huge fan of mushy films so this one is at the top of my list… and I always make a little time in the busy Christmas schedule for a date with Bruce!
Deborah – Digital Account Director
Favourite Christmas film: Love Actually
Starring, well, too many to mention!
Why do you like it? I absolutely love this film. There are so many stories going on at once that you notice something new every time you watch it. It’s 15 years since this film was first released – did you know that there is even an annual Twitter debate about whether this film is good – it’s absolute ‘Marmite’.
Jeremy – Designer
Favourite Christmas film: Elf
Starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel
Why do you like it? It’s become a bit of an annual Christmas tradition in our house to watch this film. It never fails to make us laugh out loud. A few personal highlights… when Elf is eating spaghetti like an animal, or when he’s running round and round in the revolving doors!
Emmanuel – Designer
Favourite Christmas film: Home Alone
Starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and John Candy
Why do you like it?
We all wanted to live in that house when we were younger with the massive attic and treehouse with a phone! Plus, I always tend to notice the music in films and the use of chimes, bells and strings makes this film really stand out as my Christmas favourite.
